My grandfather (Johnny D. Waters) was a part of the 84th the rail splitters I believe he was in I co 333rd. He was captured with a group from his company in a basement of a house while asleep. The night gaurd had fell asleep or so he told me. He passed away in 1997 I am his grandson he shared many stories with me which I hold dear to my heart. He spent 180 days in a german prison camp and had bad frost bite on his feet and at 6'1" when he returned home after spending almost 6 months in a hospital in france he returned home weighing only 110 lbs. He operated a flame thrower and told me that their tanks had got bogged down in the mud if I recall correctly and told of clearing these pill boxes with the flame thrower while recieving cover fire and said they would come out like rats with their skin melting off. Most every time he spoke of the war he cried and always wondered if god would forgive him for the things he had done there. I lived with him as a child and can remember being awaken by him screaming his name rank and serial number. I asked him about it once and said while bing interrogated he was proud that is all he would tell them. He was very proud to have served his country and flew a flag at his home till the day he died we installed a large flag pole at his grave and one still flies there today. One person he always talked about that he creditted with his survival was his best friend and I am not sure how his name is spelled he pronounced it Ellick Mc Cosky but my grandma thinks it is Elliot Mc Crosky I know he was also captured with my grandpa and would tell him that he needed the food more then he did and helped my grandpa survive. I also know he went on to fight in the Korean war or that is what my grandpa had heard. If any one has any info of this Mc Cosky or r a relative of his I would sure like to know more about him. My grandpa also spoke of an event in where his captain I believe he said captain Mitchell who fell and turned and said to my grandpa I think I stuck a nail in my head and had been shot in the head and killed. Thanks Johnny Daniel Waters

*I originally posted this in July 2008, but since have changed my email address, so I am re-posting this in hopes someone would remember my dad.
Looking for info on LEANDER JOSEPH "BABE" BLOOM; I am one of his 4 daughters, he passed away 3/14/66, and all I know is was a PFC - Co 84th Infantry Division; I would like to know something about his military service; all I have is a scrapbook of his with pictures of some guys (many with no name on the back of the picture), one pic states "my buddy Stiltener" (spelling?), postcard pics - 'Asan Point', 'J.A. Pomeroy Camp #1', 'Agat Village', and 'Yona Village', photos from 'Okinawa Harbor', an 8 x 11 photo of 'my buddy Bill' (with no last name!, but a very nice looking young man, dark wavy hair), a picture of Oliver P. Maze of Huntington, W. Va (states my 'bedside buddy'), a picture of 'Issie', postcards of Talofofo Bay, Sinajana, and Marine Drive - all in Guam, I have his 'camera possession permit' dated 5/20/47, and I have a copy of 'The Seasick Bugle' - a two-sided, 2-page newsletter, states 'aboard U.S.A.T. General J. H. McRae, Manila-bound September-1946'. **If anyone can remember anything about my dad, Leander "Babe" Bloom, I would greatly appreciate an email to me at drv1960@gmail.com, please put 'Babe Bloom' in the subject line. Many, many thanks!! Deb Bloom originally from Goshen, NY

So my grandfather was in the 84th Infantry Division during WWII, and I have been trying to find out if there was some website dedicated to the 84th and here I am posting on the message board. His name is Robert Lloyd Roberts and if i am correct he was a staff sargent when he left, if anyone from the 84th Infantry Division remembers that name please e-mail me at katowolff09@aol.com. I would love to talk with you.
Sincerely,
Michael Joseph Heiner
Please take a moment of silcence and remberance for all the veterans that are no longer with us. I only thought this would be fitting since I am posting this on Nov. 11th which is not only Veteran's Day but also the day that my grandfather passed away.
Comment by Sadmin Sgt Roberts served in the Pacific so was not in the 84th during the war.
My grandfather was a member of the 52th Armored Infantry, but he has a few pictures of the 84th playing football against the 82nd, I believe, in Olympic Stadium sometime after V-E Day. I'm in the process of scanning them at a high resolution. If someone from the site will contact me, I will be happy to email once I have the digitized.

My grandfather, Ivan Beams was in the 84th during World War II. He passed away in 1998 of ALS. I never was able to talk to him about his experience, because I was too young, or too much of a teeneger to really listen to his stories. I know he was a staff sergant and was wounded twice. He was part of Company C. I know that up until 1997 both he and my grandmother went to most of the reunions. If anyone knows any information, or where to look, please let me know.

To Whom It May Concern:
On 10 Oct. 2009 my father, Charles Carpenter, lost his battle with cancer. Growing up he told us many stories of his time in the 84th Infantry. He went in on 6 June 1944 and was discharged on 27 March 1946. He was wounded two times and received two purple hearts for his wounds. He also received the Bronze Star. I would like to get in contact with anyone who may remember him and be able to tell us about him during his time in WWII. I have four young children who now are missing a very important person in their life. They loved to listen to their Grandpa talk about the different things that he saw and did while in the army. He served with Baker Company, 335th infantry division. Dad was from Pennsylvania. He received one Purple Heart in Leige, Belg in Jan. 45 and another one in Heidelburg, Germany in June 45. Battles and campaigns are listed as Ardennes, Central Europe, and Rihineland. What we know as the Battle of the Bulge. He also received a Bronze Star for something that he never told us about. We figure for something he did in Jan. 45. Any information on him would be greatly appreciated.
Sincerly,
Kristen Halsey

My name is SPC McInerney. I've been trying to find for years about my grandfathers service in WW2 & all I've gathered so far since his passing in 2001 is he was in the 84th and was a technical sergeant. He was on a 37 mm anti tank gun mobile, I believe, and he received 2 silver stars. he never spoke of his experiences. I've heard he was at the Battle of the Bulge. His name was Daniel R. McInerney & he was from New York. I know this may not be easy to find but if any one would know anything please reply to me direct at jay_mci@yahoo.com. Any stories or even possible vague memories or even hearing his name from a loved one would help thank you.

My father, 1LT Frederick W. Liander, was in K then M company of the 334th from 8/44 to 1/46. He is listed in the Draper history on page 258. I am looking for unit crests for the 334thInf. Regiment. I have one and would like to have five more. If you know a source please let me know. I am also looking for copies of "Fortune favored the brave." by Cpl. Perry S. Wolff. I have been searching the web for the past two weeks and no luck on the crests. The 334th was in existence for such a short time so there wasn't much of a supply to begin with. I have had a few leads on the book but the sellers all seem to be out of stock for the moment. Any help would be appriciated

Second topic. I have recently assisted in identifying a photo of German prisoners in Herford. In the photo is a very clear image of a Railsplitters Military Police guard. Does anyone have any relatives or knowledge about the 84th MPs as I would like to identify this face if possible. Thanks!
I am researching the capture of the German towns of Herford (my primarily area of interest) and Bielefeld by the 84th in early April 1945. To my knowledge it was the 333rd Inf Regt which entered both Herford and Bielefeld. Any information that you may be able to give me would very much be appreciated. Photographs are especially welcome!
In return, I am a former British soldier currently living in Holland but also with strong links to northern Germany. If you need assistance with researching the 84ths path through these areas then I am in a good position to assist. I speak Dutch and German.
My GrandFather Millard D. Reich 84th Infantry 334th Regiment 2nd Battalion. He served as Squad leader for first scout and also second scout until he realized how dangerous that was than he volenteered to be a message runner for his companie than for Battalions, which was more danerous. I am writing because he is a wealth of info about those he fought along side with. He knows about your grandfather Mike Captain Garland. Email me if you have any questions, I will reply when possible. Thanks Mike God Bless our service men and women!

Hello,
I am searching for information on Company K, 333rd Infantry, 84th division...which I believed my grandfather was with during WWII. He never spoke of the war during his life and now I am searching for information. I know he was injured near Worms, Germany in November of 1944. PFC W.N. Farris
Thank you for any information that can be provided.
