i am looking for any information about my father Charles M Speakman. he was wounded on 1.22.45 we are trying to piece together his military history and especially any onformation on how he was wounded. he was shot through the chest and recovered but records only describe a chest injury. he received a purple heart and had a very visible gunshot wound on his back and front chest. he is deceased now but I would like to give his grandchildren a record of his military history. btw, we were told his records were burnt in a fire.

hello my name is bryan kimbler my dad was in the 84th.infantry rail splitters from 1944 to i believe 1947.he never really talked about his time in Europe very much.he did receive a purple heart and a bronze star, and would never say much about them.he did say that the bronze star was a unit citation but not how they got it.if anyone knows i would really like to find out.i know a couple of names of men that he was friends with during and after the war.Al Kniss i believe from new york,Marvin Tie from Utah sorry i'm not sure of the last name spelling, and sorry about this but the last one i only remember his last name and it was Newby and he was from Rochester wa.if anyone remembers my dad or might have a photo with him in it i would love to have a copy.all of my dad's army stuff was lost in a house fire long before i was born as i am the last of six children.these are some of the things that i know of his time in the army.he was drafted in 1944, trained for combat in the pacific and was then sent to Europe,he fought in the battle of the bulge, his company liberated a concentration camp on the way to Berlin.he was part of the infantry that followed Patton in to Berlin.so as you can see there is a lot missing.so anything that you know would be greatly appreciated.my dad was Leland Quentin Kimbler he was a buck Sargent at his time of discharge.my e-mail address is bryankimbler@yahoo.com thank you very much

I tried to contact National Personnell Records Center in St. Louis MO, which is where I got his military record in 1990 and there is no listing for them now. Who can I contact to find out what regiment, battalion, or unit he was in? Thanks

Finding Your Relative
84th Roster is 140 pages long. If you narrow your dad's unit down to Regiment that is ~33 pages. Battalion narrows it down to ~7. If you only know his company there were only 3 regiments with the same Co. names so that narrows it down to 3 Pages. Special units (Ord, Signal, Med, AA, TD Bn, etc.) narrows it down to a few pages at most. From this I can look up his listing and get his specific unit, Rank, awards, Campaigns, hometown, date he died (if applicable). From that info we can go to various 84th history books and see what he was involved in. At the least you can get the gist of what they did. At the most he may be mentioned in a specific account. If you are really lucky there may be men who are still living that he served with that we can find. If you are really, really lucky there may be men that still remember him. Finding out his specific Unit is the key to any of the above. Please leave your email address so I can help you.

I am looking for anyone who may remember my Grandfather. His name was Ernest Ryzenga and we believe he fought in the 84th division between November 1944 and February 1945, when he was severely wounded in Germany from shrapnel. He has since passed away and we never knew much of what he did in the war... anything would be appreciated!

Hi, I'm writing in regards to a reference in my father's (Lt James N. Doyle, 333rd, Co A, 1st Pl) military separation papers in which he received a CIB (Combat Infantryman's Badge) for service prior to becoming WIA near Beeck, Germany on 30 Nov 44. I read a reference in Wkipedia that Bronze Stars were retroactively awarded to CIB designees and similar citations in 1946. Could anyone shed some light on this matter? I'm wondering if I should pursue this on behalf our family for my Dad who's still alive and kicking at 87. By the way, like all the guys would, he poo-pooed the idea.

Remains two WWII MIA's of the 84th Inf Div have been found at Suggerath Germany. (1 mile north of Geilenkirchen )

The local authorities (City of Geilenkirchen) and all those involved have been taken every step to honor the remains of the two American soldiers with full respect and are now being in the process to turn the remains over to the US authorities for proper identification and burial.

My grandmother lived next door to General Hoy in Winter Park, Florida in the '60's. I have her copy of Fortune Favored the Brave with a hand written note from the General. As an 8 year old in 1964, I was in awe of this man..a real General. All you guys are amazing.
My dad served in the Pacific on board the USS Iowa and his law partner back in the 60's was an Airborne Ranger at Bastogne. You are truely the greatest generation.

I believe my uncle Valente Solis was in the 84th infantry based on my mother's description of his arm patch. He was killed on Feb 24th 1945. My mother received a letter from another soldier saying that he was killed by a sniper and they didn't leave the area until the sniper was caught. Does anyone recognize the name or have any knowledge of this event. Since they crossed the Roer river on the 23rd it would have happened on the other side.

I am interested in communicating with anyone who was in Company K and who went to North Africa during the time between November 24th 1943 to December 1944. During this time I believe he also went to Italy. Part of Company K must have stayed in Africa and the other portion went to Italy.

On his record it indicates that he went to Rome-Arno and then to Southern France. He then departed from Europe on November 28th 1945 and arrived in the US on December 6th 1945.

Anyone who knows Patrick DeAngelo, I would be very interested in talking and/or communicating with to find out more about my fathers tour in Europe during the WWII campaign.

Sincerely,

Greg DeAngelo

My name is Danny Dohmen and I am from the Netherlands. Recently I recieved an email about a job as a volunteer for buidling up a database about soldiers from WWII who died in and around holland: http://www.adoptiegraven-database.nl/ I applied for this job, because I am happy that I can do something back to keep the memories of these heroes alive. In this database we try to give basic information about all of the soldiers from the American WWII cemeterys "Margraten Netherlands" and "Ardennes Belgium" and Henri Chapelle Belgium". At this moment I am trying to find information about Staff Sergeant Grady C Morris. He served in the 334th Infantry Regiment 84th Infantry Division during WWII. Maybe someone can help mein my search.
